EDITFEM
Shareware Version 1.0
copyright (c) 1993, LogiGraphics
How many times have you brought up the Dos editor 'EDIT', attempted to open
an existing file, and cursed because of the '*.TXT' file extension mask?
Now with EDITFEM, you can change the file extension match pattern used to get
a list of the files in your current directory.
This is a shareware version of the EDITFEM program. Shareware is a concept
used to distribute software in a "try before you buy" fashion, but shareware
is like public television, continued support is needed from its users to
ensure future quality programming.
If you find this program helpful, we encourage you to register it with
LogiGraphics by filling out the registration form, found in the file
REGISTER.DOC, and sending it along with a $12.00 registration fee, to:
LogiGraphics

By registering the software, you will receive the following benefits ...
1) You will receive a customized version which will display
your name, company, and serial number in the title banner.
2) You will be able to make multiple modification without
having to reinstall the original 'QBASIC.EXE' program.
3) You will receive information on any future products available
from LogiGraphics.
Please feel free to redistribute this program, in it's original form, to any
one that you feel can benefit from it.
We also encourage you to upload the origional EDITFEM.ZIP file to any
bulletin boards that you are associated with. If you do, then please use
the following descriptions.
Program Type: Dos Utility
Short Description: MS-DOS EDIT program filename pattern modifier program.
Long Description: How many times have you brought up the MS-DOS EDIT
program, and cursed because of the '*.TXT' file
mask? Well now, with EDITFEM, you can change the
file match pattern to what you want.
Installing the EDITFEM program ...
The supplied program INSTALL should be used for the installation of the
EDITFEM program. This program was developed to provide you with an as
effortless as possible means of installing your software.
When the INSTALL program starts, the first question you will be asked is the
source that you wish to install from. The two selections are from the
HARD DRIVE, or from a FLOPPY DRIVE. If you are attempting to install from
the FLOPPY DRIVE, and you have more than one floppy drive on your computer,
you will be asked for the drive specifier, either A or B.
You will then be asked to enter the full pathname, including the drive, to
the directory that you want to install the software to. By default, the
INSTALL program will use the 'C:\LGUTILS' directory. If the pathname that
you have entered does not already exist, then you will be asked if you want
to create it.
The INSTALL program will then graphically display the status of the
installation by showing you two bar graphs.
The upper bar graph, displays the current file that is being installed, and
its percent of completion, and the lower bar graph displays the total percent
of completion.
After the files have been properly installed, and if the pathname that you
entered does not currently exist in your PATH variable, then you will be
asked whether you want the INSTALL program to update your AUTOEXEC.BAT file,
so that the EDITFEM program can be run from any directory.
Running the EDITFEM program ...
If the directory that you have installed the EDITFEM program to exists in
your PATH, then you can run the program from any directory by entering,
EDITFEM. Otherwise, you will have to 'CD' to that directory first, and then
enter EDITFEM.
After entering EDITFEM, the title screen will be posted to give you a
general overview of the program.
The next panel that is posted will allow you to enter the new filename
matching pattern to use. By default, EDIT uses '*.TXT' for the pattern.
This means that when EDIT creates the list of files that you can select
from to OPEN a file, only the files that have an extension of 'TXT'
will be displayed.
By default, EDITFEM uses the '*' mask value, which will cause all of the
available files in your current directory to be displayed. You may enter
upto three (3) characters to specify the new match pattern, then press the
ENTER key to continue.
The program will then attempt to find the program 'QBASIC.EXE'. If it could
be found, then it will attempt to change the extension mask. If you are
using the shareware version of EDITFEM though, you will only be allowed to
modify the extension mask one time, without having to reinstall the
'QBASIC.EXE' program from your Dos disk.
You may quit this program at anytime, by entering an ALT-X, that is, by
holding down the ALT key, and pressing the X key.
That's it! Now the next time you run the EDIT program, and attempt to open
a file, then a listing of all the files that match your new file extension
mask will be displayed, and I'm sure you coworkers will be glad that the
cursing has stopped.
